Reminders of how Beautiful People Can Be
I live around people who fill me with deep despair. Watching people look at human life and suffering as a means to end or laughing/minimizing it. I cannot help but look at them as monsters who dare wear the face of a human even though I see none behind an obvious fake mask that they do not even buy themselves. People are capable of horror and causing pain beyond what our nightmares can conjure up and then so much worse.
My heart constantly feels numb in these times as I see the worst people can be and usually for no other reason other than to put on a frankly pathetic show of indifference or some kind of whimsical delight in it all because they have by whatever grace lived in a protected bubble. Their happiness hangs by a thread that they do not see is unraveling.
Yet often, even today, I am surrounded by compassion. People who truly want the world to be better and we long for the world to someday to be better. I remind myself that the whims of hate and evil are more or less held by people who lash out at shadows due to their own fears. Fearful people who simply cannot simply live in a changing world.
Beautiful people are always around me.
